Vacuum Quartet – String Quartet Series: Dmitri Kourliandski

Релиз объединяет три струнных квартета Дмитрия Курляндского, написанные в разное время с 2004 по 2018 годы. «Night-Turn», 2004 год, это одно из ранних сочинений, тем не менее, здесь уже слышен типичный для Курляндского отказ от нарративной линейности, интерес к созданию насыщенной множеством деталей среды, звукового пейзажа. В предложенной статике действующим лицом оказывается сам слушатель, который отправляется в слуховое путешествие, различая детали и их соединения. «Dolce stil nuovo» 2018 года – не про среду, но про линии, даже мелодии. Однако результат наложения этих линий непредсказуем для самих музыкантов – они никогда не знают, какая вертикаль образуется в каждый следующий момент. Это мелодия, которая пишет сама себя. Наконец, «Maps of non-existent cities. Bludenz», сочинение 2014 года, часть большого цикла, посвященного идеям и практикам психогеографии и ситуационизма. Здесь вместе со слушателем в путешествие отправляются и сами музыканты – если в «Night-Turn» партитура строго организована и подробно выписана, в «Dolce stil nuovo» музыканты в живом режиме создают мелодические линии, в «Блюденце» партитура графическая и предполагает множество решений и интерпретаций, каждый возникающий звук оказывается неожиданным для самого исполнителя – он вслушивается в него, познает и раскрывает его свойства в процессе исполнения, оказываясь слушателем собственной игры.

The release brings together three string quartets by Dmitri Kourliandski, written between 2004 and 2018. “Night-Turn”, 2004, is one of the earliest works, nevertheless one can already hear Kourliandski’s typical rejection of narrative linearity here, his interest in creating a richly detailed environment, a soundscape. In the proposed static the listener is the protagonist, who embarks on an aural journey, discerning details and their connections. “Dolce stil nuovo” 2018 is not about environments, but about lines, even melodies. However, the result of the superposition of these lines is unpredictable for the musicians themselves – they never know which vertical will form in each following moment. It is a melody that writes itself. Finally, “Maps of non-existent cities. Bludenz”, a 2014 work, part of a larger cycle dedicated to the ideas and practices of psychogeography and Situationism. Here, along with the listener, the musicians themselves go on a journey – if in Night-Turn the score is strictly organised and detailed, in Dolce stil nuovo the musicians create melodic lines in a live mode, in Maps the score is graphic and suggests many solutions and interpretations, each sound that emerges is unexpected for the performer – he listens to it, learns and reveals its properties in the process of performance, finding himself as a listener of his own playing.
